• Ericsson is getting a bit over 100Mbps per copper twisted-pair. Oh will xDSL not die ? Meanwhile SE took a big 50% hit on sales and will be operating on the red.

• There’s more Android phones coming from HTC and the dev platforms are starting to popup too. Compulab has a android development hardware platform including stuff like ethernet interfaces.

• We knew it was too good to be true. We’re not actually getting a wave powered generator because there’s not money now.

• The smartphones keep chipin’ away at Nokia market share. Not that it hurts a lot Nokia’s huge bottom line but it’s a preview of the future. Meanwhile, Symbian foundation will have something like 3 to 5 Symbian simultaneous active releases. Someone should really tell them that’s a bad idea.

• Microsoft, proving again they missed the train, are shunning free apps by charging per app submission on their Marketplace.

• The clever people at MIT figured out how to do a new kind of lithium-ion electrode that works kind like a capacitor with full changing in seconds instead of hours. This is only bad news for fuel cells.

• On amazing science news, a man was given a bionic eye. It’s not exactly HD but it features a optical nerve interface.

• Just like what happened with the G1 enterprising people are descovering ways to make the Nokia 5800 go multitouch. Not that S60v5 can benefit from it or anything …

• There’s offline GCalendar now too. Total world domination is nearer.

• On pointless databasification, Spain is killing anonymous prepaid phones. Cause no terrorist will ever find out how to get access to a phone that’s not registered under his name. Ever.

There’s three things Nokia needs to fix on the S60v5 browser:

• The engine needs an update, specially the javascript bits. WebKit didn’t stop in 2008 you know people ?

• The menubar needs to autohide. 640 is almost desktop width, why kill it with an annoying menubar that’s useless 90% of the time ?

• Get multi-window right. At this point you can kludge a new window bookmark and then use the craptastic switch window interface to switch but I know you can do better!

• Without much surprise (for me at least) the carriers don’t want Skype on Nokias. That’s a no brainer, their data plans forbiding VoIP usage and all.

• On monopoly news, EU says MS must offer browser choice. Great, another 20 screens on the windows installer and an extra hour if you don’t choose IE.

• Eircom is going to start blocking their users from whatever sites the music industry feels like. I forsee Eircom blocking myspace and youtube and then shortly after stoping being the largest ISP in Ireland. Norway on the other hand, chose net neutrality. Cause they felt like it.
