Meego pre-alpha for handsets is coming out June 30th and the final version is going to be done in October. That’s a whole lot of planning! And whole lot of hurt in Nokia’s future. This was E3 week. Nintendo delivered on the 3DS. It’s handheld, glasses free, 3D gaming. Pretty much, Nintendo is one generation ahead of everybody else and the reports is it actually works. Why is glasses free important ? If you have kids you know! Meanwhile, MS and Sony are still playing catchup to the Wii. Sony is reashing camera based stuff, now with glowsticks. They clearly learned something from the EyeToy experience. And Microsoft announced the expect Kinect. It looks pretty much what Sony announced except without the lightwands which means it will probably fail in real life lighting settings. Also, Microsoft has absolutely no history of far out games (has opposed to Nintendo and specially Sony) that can actually use Kinect.

Microsoft is actually paying people to develop for Windows Phone 7. Yes, the basic proposition is that bad. And cause it can always get worse, there’s another mobile OS coming. Meanwhile, Nokia downgrades sales forecast for the next quarter. Maybe cause stuff like the X5. Maybe cause the awesome N8 hardware is being powered by crappy old Symbian instead of steroid powered Maemo5 or 6 or whatever Nokia should have working and ready to ship by now.

Ah, the joys of being P2P free, totally 0wned and spreading malware or part of a botnet. One more thing, Apple decided to drag America kicking and screaming into 2004 by adding “FaceTime” or video calling like the rest of the world calls it. The stupid bit here is the world already has vanilla SIP and 3gpp/IMS so coming up with a useless new protocol and promising to open it sometime in the future is, well, stupid. And to confuse networking old fart like me iPhoneOS is now iOS. I’m pretty sure Cisco is thrilled.
