sigh. how to tell sasl to not do plain ?
sigh. how to tell sasl to not do plain ?
spent some time froliking with my shiny new VM from bytemark. they seem like decent chaps and my very own uml is the closest thing to a proper co-located machine :
did i mention my GR thing returned ? found some cool mods got hooked into some user designed campains. silly me.
more froliking with the s45, movie watching and stuff.
now you can keep track of The War without annoying texts!
iraqometer!
however, they didn't seem to cover
2 portuguese reporters getting arrested,
locked in a jeep for 36 hours and
beaten up.
my canon s45 is here. joy. time to learn again again what
are Fstops and the funny icons mean.
as expected, not much else got done.
As
"They
weren't rolling over the way we thought they would",
"120,000
additional troops [are] being deployed to the region".
Meanwhile,
Israel
is back to errrrr "fighting terrorism".
The Guardian's George Monbiot shows how much
the
Geneva convention is worth for USA. I wonder if
BBC is
allowed
there.
most remarkable thing today was the ammount of rain. that and the relentless attack on mirrors caused by the release of mandrake9.1
so, GR mods are crampin my hackin style. oh well.
some guy named mike decided it would be cool to deeplink to somwhere here. well, IT ISN'T. dude, if you're going to rip off pics from a random site at least have the decency of doing it right and copying them to your site. that way you a) don't piss off the original site b) don't get caught and c) don't run the risk of having the pic suddenly changed for a goatse pic.
blah rain et all. not much in the way of productivity.
Setup a newsisfree WarSpecial page. "all it could fit"
the day was mostly dedicated to home type stuff (type
permiting and patience resisting i'll put the
live-from-the-front chronicle of Operation:
Enduring Squeege online) and IRS. The good news is acording
to latest tallies i'm bound to get some money
back. horrah.
while sorting IRS papers and typing numbers into small boxes
and trying to figure out the deadly secrets of the code of
IRS i managed to watch
wonder boys.
omfg, are
this
people
blind as well as "MSHTML 5.00.2614.3500" users ?
on the hacking front some small advance was made on TreoGroups, mostly booring UI stuff.
Rumsfeld
says public showing of PoW images is in violation
of the Genever Convention. Action is expect against
USA and
UK.
Meanwhile, the missing UK reporters may have been
killed by 'friendly fire'. The report also mentions US forces were also shooting at surrendering iraqi troops.
cnn reporting,
fair
as usual.
horrah saturday, house stuff got done and not much
more.
fishy news: 2 tiggers died this week - they were *original*
fish, 2 odd years old.

not less depressing :\
The friendly Israeli Democracy
disciplines
the press
Aparently a "fierce battle" was won against an iraqi
mechanized division that
surrendered yesterday.
But this is not just a bullet war, it's a war of words
too. in a press statment an iraqi ranking officer called
Bush&Blair "thugs" and "stupid". Meanwhile, the spanish are
demonstrating on the streets and calling Aznar and Bush far
worse.
However, Bush just wants to
keep
Saddam from reverse engineering Alien tech.
moderate day. findind a good webhosting is
Hard. valuehost.co.uk which seemed fairly okish is running a
4 day email blackout. DoS, I see.
Pair never had email
outages - go pair.
someone has been naughty on the balsa front. Operation: Enduring CVS.
USA may
use
biochemical weapons against Iraq.
meanwhile,
Turkey moves into kurdistan.
And so the masspounding begun and Bush is already claiming
Saddam is hidding troops in between civilians. Bush is
schedule to gripe about iraqi troops shooting back
tomorrow.
while several million USD worth of ordinance is dumped on
iraq 10 billions (or thousand millions) are
being dumped on israel. and everybody hates your guts. go figure.
I wonder how a county that claims to be blessed by God
reconciles itself with being openly and violently critisized
by
God's PR on
Earth. I guess it doesn't.
on unrelated news, a possibly exploitable buffer overflow in the imap code was removed from balsa. expect a 1.4 maintenance release RealSoon.
i thought i wouldn't touch PhoneOn again but installing it in a Treo300 showed just how much 1.0 was crap. To your CDMA delight, 1.2 was released.
there's great tediousness in palmos gui design. that's all i can say today.
removed the silly link of the month. not because it stoped
being silly but because it stoped being 'of the month'
several months ago. oh well.
however i present to you
Charley Reese.
acording to cnn USA is planing to bomb Germany
oh where did today go ? i mostly remember house stuff, more fixing bean and playing with openvpn and ipv6.
oh, that and releasing serial bridge 0.3. i have achieved GPRS connectivity on the laptop. it wasn't rocket science after all.
spent the better part of the day playing with the cable
configuration and general broadband stuff and most
importantly - reinstalling bean after i accidently errr
killed the root partition. fortunatly, I all my installs
have separate /home :)
did i mention 'broadband stuff' includes shuffling 2 pci cards
in hal make them irq happy fun ? i wuv peces.
gave in to the lust of 640kbps and got myself a cablemodem.
why cable and not dsl ? for starters, currently I have an
ISDN line and dsl on isdn is a PITA. also, i'm not into
delayed gratification and between buying the cable package and
internet goodness were like, 2 hours.
most of of all, it doesn't make me run PPPoE or PPPoA or any
of the crap. dhcp and we're set. whopass.
well, installing the thing involved moving a NIC from sal to hal, and while i was at it i redid part of the teve cabling bits. oh, and why not connect the frontal usb ports to the mobo on sal ? sooo it pretty much took me all night :)
so TreoGroups is chuging along now that I figured out ringtones can be changed just before start ringing. now, for the very booring UI bits...
I wish Handspring would cherish developers instead of trying to milk them. You do understand developers add value to your products don't you ? m'k
oh look, GR:IT has 5 extra missions. and they're all
*hard*. nevermind.
so between house, and GR and cathing up on web life and such
nothing real got done. and i even haven't installed
RogueSpear black thorn yet.
spent most of the morning geting the battery of the twingo
replaced. definitly not happy fun, not a good surprise but
oh well i saw it coming. it was totally my fault. gasp.
otoh the steering tunning and general wheel
calibration made wonders
finished GR:IT (boohiakaxa!) and started working on TreoGroups. actually, looking into the possibility of implementing caller groups and ringtones and whatnot on the treo.
why oh why do i keep typing '&&' instead of & ?
nothing much happened today. did some more wife driven home improvement by applying a clever V shapped tape from tesa to the window sills and spent way too much time playing GR:IT (actually, being blown to bits. ouch)
on the hacking side released serialbridge 0.2 and tested real live connections, but the vodafone apn didn't play along :\
someone woke me up way too early considering it was a
saturday morning. despite my efforts for a nice morning nap,
which were thwarted by the evil SaturdayMorningPeople, i was
rendered unable to function has a normal human
being. sorry. no real today. not my fault!
soooo, a fair part of the day was spent geting killed and
generaly blown to pieces in a GR:Island Thunder campaign.
a somewhat lesser chunk was spent putting up a light fixture
for the baby. it's pwweetty.
modest not-really-advance was made on serial bridge. found out it doesn't actually freeze, it just blocks waiting for something (which shouldn't happen unless something lies), I get some kinky usb errors from it aaaand, most important the wireless modem always gives me 'no carrier'. I believe i'll have to explore the net connection manager and see how it goes about things.
did i mention i found out the goodness of gthumb ? here's (probably not permalink) a sample of it's handywork. 'automagical'
so, aparently some of the "evidence" presented byt usa about iraq nuclear plan is fake. not a big surprise considering the past.
today was dedicated to get twingo serviced and the bathroom fixed. both were acomplished with 100% success, and as an added bonus we also went grocery shopping and i got a bit of code written for serialbridge (no fixes buuhhh). horrah.
not only that but the postman delivered the parcel from amazon full of goodies such as GR: Island Thunder and AC Clarke books. now, if i didn't fudge my GR install by deleting bits of living under windows that seemed useless. more important if i could just *uninstall* and *install* it again but noooooo. it insists GR:DS *is* installed and that's why i'm getting a console.
a productive day. rotated twingo's tires in preparation for tomorrow's chekup and released serialbridge 0.1 for the brave souls. at this point i can say at to the wireless modem and it answers 'ok' and at some point when more data goes through the thing it pretty much stops answering events and needs a pin reset. stay tunned!
ok so, serialbridge crashes the treo miserably (or is it me
pipping data into the wrong usb port ? hummmmmmmmm), I can't
get serial to work on POSE - as far as i can tell it doesn't
even open the ptyqe and I can't even talk to the wireless
modem anymore with a palm terminal emulator
thingie. something is ooohhh so very wrong.
not only that but today there was no SG-1. gggarrrrr
so, it's carnaval and stuff. it's not actually a real
holiday but it always ends up being an holiday. horrah.
you know brazilians go all ape crazy with this carnaval
business, like the country stoped last wednesday (not quite
- i exagerate *everything*). we're not so whacked out on
this business but several bunches of people seem bent on
mimicing the brazilian carnaval, despite the fact we have
*our own*. so you get a bunch of bikini chicks making like
they know how to samba and it's not 10C and everything is
happy fun and they're not freezing to death.
our version otoh is basicly masks, making fun of people and
being silly. horrah.
despite all that sillyness, spent a good part of the day looking at serialbridge stuff writing code. this must be the hardest 7k of code i ever wrote (either that or i'm going stoopid). most of the time was consumed by my fundamental disagreement with palmos api and objID and objIndex. there's also the fact the serial bits of the thing can only be actually tested on a real treo and "Fatal Error [Reset]" isn't a big debuging aid. pose+gdb are a bit better thankfully.
discussão no gil. sobre blogs. ainda me lembro dos tempos em que conhecia tipo, 90% das pessoas que tinham blogs por cá. é obviamente a velhice a atacar.
opened the treo page with PhoneOn. go me. the good thing about the copy'past approach to PalmOS programing is a) it works b) makes for 2 hour coding sprees that generate real working programs. go me.
highly productive day, including several house type stuff, tank maintenance and some remodeling! - mainly make the stuff the usually floats around stick to the bottom installing and new fake log.
watched million dolar hotel, hacked on serialbridge (to the point where it actually nearly works - except it crashes), didn't pay nearly enough attention to balsa.
meanwhile, people coming from the far right political scenario are talking against The War and people in the right quadrant say everybody critisizes bush but noone critisizes saddam. hello, are you listening to yourself ? we know he's evil! everybody does! it's not like, up for discussion.
palmos gui stuff is Hard and booring. not actually hard, but
so booring it gets annoying.
balsa2.1 is being discussed! we didn't even get 2.0 nailed
down yet :) we're like, the future dude!
i *wish* i found my treo gpilotd patch. it's not rocket
science but it took me a good 15 minutes to figure out.
brazilians do like their carnaval
