Week In Review 2W2010
Google, in a dragon-balls-of-steel move, told China to start behaving or they’ll get the hell out. Rock on Google! Not only are they going hardline against China but they went after the attackers and cracked them back.
And turns out the attacks Google found about was done through (yet another) IE exploit. The german government advised the general public against IE and Microsoft says all IE versions are bugged on all OSs but upgrade anyway. And clearly this hasn’t been a good week for Microsoft, Bing fails at indexing sites and I figured out why. It’s because all the indexers are busy going through parts of cpan.org where they clearly shouldn’t be and bringing DDoSing the site in the process.
HADOPI, all about keeping the internet safe for copyright holder and stealing fonts. Turns out the copyright keystone cops can’t do anything anywhere without violating copyright. Way to go!
On stupidity, a US scholl principal called the bomb squad on a science project. And instead of resigning in shame he went on to recommend the kid get counseling. For you know, that dangerous pattern, learning and doing science.
And on censorship news. Italy wants youtube uploaders to get a broadcaster license. You know, cause people might create a media channel Berlusconi doesn’t control and that would be bad for him. I say we boot Italy from the EU and Google should get the hell out of Italy!
Remember those full body scanners that are supposed to keep you safe and not be able to store or transmit images ? Yeah, turns out they’re required to do both. Meanwhile, there’s non intrusive technology that might actually work out there like networked noses. On more “security”, the common wisdom amongst law makers is RFIDs must be safe cause they’re new and related to computers. Reality usually doesn’t care about common wisdom and German security ID cards are easily cloned.
